New Delhi [India], August 25: Sportswear used to have one job: perform during a workout, then get changed out of. That single-purpose model has given way to something more fluid. Fabric built for training moisture management, stretch, breathability has proven just as useful for a commute, a flight, or a full day that mixes meetings with a gym session squeezed in between.
Alcis Sports, the Noida-headquartered performance-wear brand, is developing its men’s activewear portfolio along that same line. Its current focus is on the men’s polos and men’s trackpants and joggers collections categories built to move between training and daily life. Both sit alongside an already-established men’s sportswear range that includes men’s tracksuits, among other staples. The story here is less about a single product drop and more about how a domestic sportswear brand is shaping its catalogue around a wardrobe that has to work in more than one setting a day.
The Evolution of Men’s Activewear
Indian menswear has been moving toward casual, comfort-first clothing for several years now. According to Images Business of Fashion, citing Technopak analysis published in the India Business of Fashion Report 2024, menswear is the largest segment of India’s casualwear market, projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 7.6% to reach roughly Rs 326,869 crore (US$49 billion) by 2028 a forecast window that runs from a 2018 base year. The same report describes athleisure as a category that has moved well beyond gym and sport-specific use, gaining acceptance as regular casual attire across metro and non-metro cities alike.
None of this happened because men suddenly started training more. It happened because clothing designed around movement and breathability turned out to be just as useful for daily life as it was for exercise a pattern retailers and manufacturers across the casualwear industry have been building product ranges around for several seasons.
Alcis Sports Builds on an Established Activewear Portfolio
Alcis Sports didn’t stumble into this transition from an outsider to the industry, as the brands own About us page states, the brand was launched by the promoters of Paragon Apparels Pvt. Ltd., one of the biggest producers and exporters of sportswear in India, by their own admission, though not ranked so by any independent body. Roshan Baid, the company’s managing director has been at the helm of sportswear manufacturing in India since 1999, and the company’s own published data estimates that the company’s four manufacturing units operate around 2000 machines, for an annual run rate of almost 9 million units.
Alcis states that all products are designed and made in India using the following technology-Dry-Tech moisture management, Anti-Odour, Anti-Static, Anti-UV and Light-X construction which are India specific weather and lifestyle oriented. Alcis further states its distribution profile includes over 700 retail outlets in India including department stores such as Lifestyle, Shopper Stop, Central, Globus and Sports Station, 14 exclusive brand outlets in various cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Kochi, Jaipur, Bengaluru and Guwahati and online retail outlets.
This tracksuit lineup may be a diminutive and humble component of that larger tableau: a miniature ensemble of two-piece matches, leaned heavily toward cold weather exercise prep and cool down wear in no-nonsense polyester. Though they are not the topic of this narrative, they do set a precedent for Alcis as a brand already figuring out how guys will navigate an exercise schedule, even before polos and track pants are in vogue.
Men’s Trackpants and Joggers: Designed Around Movement and Versatility
The trackpants and joggers collection is the larger of Alcis’s two current areas of focus, listing more than 200 styles across cotton, polyester, lycra, fleece, and modal fabrics. The large majority of the range over 200 of roughly 211 listed styles, per the collection’s own fabric filters uses breathable, anti-odor polyester, which the brand’s product copy positions as more practical for regular training than cotton, since it manages sweat and resists the shape loss that heavier Natural fibers are susceptible to deterioration after multiple washes.
The range clearly differentiates between the two kinds of pant it covers. Track pants extend more or less straight down to the ankle providing maximum breathing capacity and a convenient silhouette for work or running. The jogger is tapered at the ankle with an elastic or ribbed cuff hence creating a more tapered more casual silhouette. A lesser quantity of styles in the range not the collection as a whole incorporate quick-dry stretch fabric designed for higher impact training and running when recovery and range of motion is more critical.
That scope of usage is the real-world scenario for the category: a pair of joggers purchased for one workout can easily carry on for a second, on a flight, a chilly commute, or a lazy weekend, without needing to be replaced by something else.
Men’s Polos: Where Performance and Everyday Style Meet
Where track pants lean toward movement, the men’s polo collection listing 66 styles occupies a more deliberately in-between space. A polo has always sat somewhere between a plain t-shirt and a formal shirt: structured enough to look put-together, relaxed enough to wear all day. Alcis’s range splits fairly evenly across two fabric tracks, per the collection’s own filters: cotton and cotton-blend polos (38 of 66 styles) built for everyday, lower-intensity wear, and performance polos in breathable, anti-odor polyester (59 of 66 styles, with some overlap across blended fabrics) aimed at golf, training and warmer-weather activity.
The range comprises one specific golf run, as well as “country club” pieces and the solid, colour-training,blocked and printed options, all in slim and regular fit. The slim fit has practical implications-the former for office-casual wear and golf, where that “cleaner line” is beneficial, and the latter to offer a little more freedom for layering or all-day ease. A relatively subtle point in itself, but this approach is part of a broader thread running through both collections Alcis is now developing: clothing designed around the way men actually use an entire day, rather than simply replicating a silhouette in ever-new iterations of color.
From Training to Everyday Life
Across the three categories as a whole, they span the various, interrelated parts of a day, not overlapping each other. Tracksuits take care of the introduction and conclusion to a training session, warming up, layering up, cooling down—double it as rolled out as stylish transportation. Track pants and joggers do the same with life on the move, whether that’s a run, flight, or a full day on the hoof. Polos use a similar logic to spaces where a t-shirt is too casual, a shirt overkill.
Each was never meant to fulfill the other’s role. They are designed to accommodate different times of the day, which, more and more, transition from discrete training, to movement, to leisure, sometimes without changing clothes.
Performance, Comfort, and Functionality
Alcis features a handful of fabric technologies on its own technology page. These are the Dry-Tech+ for moisture management and breathability, the Anti-Microbial+ for odour control and the Stretch-X. The latter is a technology, which adds spandex at the yarn stage for added freedom of movement, however the page also lists Anti-UV protection, an Antistatix finish to combat static cling and a recycled polyester option the brand presents as an more eco-friendly fabric; however, there is no percentage share of the range dedicated to this material.
In reality, it is a fabric designed to deal with moisture, stay fresh and retain form after numerous washes. However, that is expressed through a polo or a pair of track bottoms is irrelevant; the basic fabric is consistent throughout the two ranges, which is what makes them work as a collection rather than as competing product lines.
The Changing Indian Activewear Market
Alcis currently operates in a larger, better documented trend in Indian menswear. Articles in the trade press about casualwear and athleisure (including the Technopak study referenced above) have noted rising incomes, increased participation in fitness activities outside of metro areas, and higher levels of acceptance of performance fabric in everyday use as a relatively stable trend driving this shift. Given that menswear casualwear currently makes up the majority of the Indian casualwear market, this is an important trend for a single-sport specialized brand.
In a domestic company designed to India-favored weather and prices that move in that direction is a move toward an established point, not a new one. The clothing that functions in a hot, humid commute, a workout and a lengthy journey is an admittedly modest one in a good part of India because of the large proportion of the country where heat, humidity and gruelling working hours make changes of outfits impractical.
What the Expansion Says About Modern Men’s Sportswear
Viewed collectively, the focus on men’s polos and trackpants/joggers at the moment seems increasingly less like a separate launch and more like an extension of territory Alcis was already establishing with tracksuits and its other existing categories. Its manufacturing history and documented fabric technologies seem to suggest a brand developing its men’s offering as a connected collection of options based on a shared fabric philosophy rather than on stals chasing a passing trend.
That was in keeping with the direction the broader category has been heading in. Brands known for the level of performance of their sportswear that used to maintain a clear divide between performance and casualwear now blur the distinction. Alcis’s current men’s line is indicative of the latter trend rather than different from it.
Conclusion
Men’s activewear is no longer just about what happens in the gym. It is now defined more by how a garment performs over a packed day with training, travel and work, leisure, often all without the need to change. Alcis Sports’ latest emphasis on men’s polos and track pants and joggers is a reflection of the new growth with a well-established sportswear range including track-suits and other core categories. Instead of a major launch, the brand appears to be taking the next step with this sort of clothing which looks designed to be useful to men’s everyday movement.
