A Journey of Devotional Sound — A Special Musical Conversation with Rajeev Acharya

1. You are an astrologer, vastu expert, environmentalist, motivational speaker, author, poet, and a senior government officer — what inspired you to move towards music?   Answer: According to our Sanatan Dharma, the universe was created through Om or Naad — also known as Naad Brahma. Music exists in every particle of the universe and pervades all five elements. When the sounds of these five elements come together in rhythm, the human body is formed. So, no one can remain untouched by music — and neither could I.   ⸻   2. Was this interest always within you, or did a particular experience guide you in this direction?   Answer: As I mentioned earlier, music is embedded in every aspect of creation — in water, air, trees, living beings, rivers, and mountains. Even within our own minds, music exists. When music connects with spirituality, it transforms into a silent, divine force. So yes, my interest in the music of the body and mind has always been present.   ⸻   3. Why did you choose Navdurga as the theme for your music project? Is there any special reason?   Answer: Absolutely. As you know, my field is astrology and spirituality. There is a deep connection between the nine forms of Goddess Durga and the nine celestial planets (Navgraha). For instance, worshipping Maa Shailputri influences the Moon, Maa Brahmacharini benefits Mars, and Maa Chandraghanta brings a positive effect from Venus. I’ve attempted to blend the cosmic science of astrology into the spiritual essence of bhajans.   ⸻   4. While writing the lyrics of your bhajans, what is your guiding principle — scriptures, personal experience, or emotion?   Answer: Definitely based on scriptures and religious teachings. Personal experiences may differ, but I firmly believe that our scriptures and epics are the ultimate source of truth and authenticity.   ⸻   5. What did you keep in mind while choosing the singing style?   Answer: Only one thing — that it should deeply touch the soul of the listener and create a spiritual resonance within.   ⸻   6. Your bhajans beautifully blend mantras and ragas — was this a conscious decision?   Answer: Yes, indeed. Ragas impact the mind and consciousness, while mantras touch the soul. With that understanding, I made an effort to combine both.   ⸻   7. During this entire project, when did you experience the deepest spiritual or emotional moment?   Answer: When I wrote it. The process of writing this hymn was a spiritual integration of astrology, devotion, and inner connection.   ⸻   8. Did you design your music keeping today’s youth in mind?   Answer: In a way, yes. I believe today’s generation is gradually losing touch with their cultural roots. It’s important for them to reconnect with ancient traditions, explore their depth, and experience the power of our spiritual heritage.   ⸻   9. What kind of response have you received from the audience? Has any particular reaction moved you emotionally?   Answer: The responses have been heartwarming and soul-touching. They’ve given me the feeling that this musical journey must go further and deeper.   ⸻   10. Have you performed these bhajans at any temple or on a live stage?   Answer: Yes, I regularly perform bhajans dedicated to Lord Shri Ram, and every time I do, it brings me immense joy and fulfillment.   ⸻   11. Do you plan to compose music in the future on other deities or mythological themes?   Answer: Yes, most certainly. In fact, I’m currently working on a series of devotional compositions dedicated to Lord Shri Ram, which I look forward to sharing with the devotees very soon.   ⸻   12. In today’s world where music is often filled with noise, how do you maintain peace and depth in your bhajans?   Answer: If you look closely, the destination of all noise is ultimately silence. Music is a medium to reach spiritual consciousness. That’s why the Ramcharitmanas is still sung today — it is a path to inner peace. I truly believe that amidst all the noise, it is essential to create a space of stillness.   ⸻   Upcoming Bhajans: Rajeev Acharya’s musical journey continues to evolve with several new devotional releases on the horizon. He is currently collaborating with renowned artists Hansika Pareek, Saloni Thakkar, and the legendary Shreya Ghoshal for upcoming bhajans. Many more acclaimed singers are also part of these upcoming projects. These compositions promise to blend timeless devotion with a contemporary soul — bringing spiritual music to life for a new generation of listeners.
